James' Biography

I started skiing when I was 6 and I went on family ski holidays every year until I was 14. Then I discovered the Freestyle park at Sheffield Ski Village dryslope and never looked back. Freestyle skiing became addictive and the best sessions were at night when it rained, which increases the speed on dry slope to get the highest amplitude out of the Halfpipe. I also used to watch lots of ski movies which really inspired me to learn new tricks and I did my first 1080 on the dry slope at Sheffield when I was 15 years old.

I had a vision that ski Halfpipe would eventually get into the Olympics and I couldn't wait to compete for Great Britain and find out if I could transfer my skills onto snow. I entered my first British Championships (The Brits) in Switzerland in 2006. Since 2009 I have won the British Halfpipe Championships for four consecutive years which hasn't been achieved before. This was the platform and the start of my international skiing career. World Cups and World Championships have taken me as far as New Zealand, Japan, Canada the US and I've had the opportunity to compete against the best in the World. It was fantastic when Ski Halfpipe was announced to be included in the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014, and I am working towards my qualification for TeamGB and a chance to be in the history books.

It is amazing to be an athlete on the newly established GBFreeski team and I'm really excited about the opportunities that might follow after the Olympics. I am very grateful and I thank my Support Team and sponsors.
