James' Biography

James Machon represented Great Britain as one of two of a new generation of British Ski Halfpipers at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, placing 23rd overall.

He discovered freestyle skiing at the Sheffield Ski Village Freestyle Park when he was 6 years old, which is where his love for freestyle skiing was sealed.

He is a monster on the halfpipe and has won just about every halfpipe-related domestic competition there is to win for skiers, including the British Halfpipe Championship, which he has won an unprecedented four times in a row. He was the first British skier to ever compete on the Winter Dew Tour.

Machon also placed very well in international competitions, such as the FIS World Cup circuit and US Open.

In 2012, Machon ruptured his Anterior Cruciate ligament which required surgery. He developed a mis-diagnosed infection which was life threatening and required further knee surgery, which was a 12 months recovery. Despite this, he successfully returned to the Halfpipe just 2 months before the 2014 Winter Olympics. Machon then fractured his thumb during the last Olympic qualifying event, he qualified for the Olympics in a cast.

Machon now aim's to become Britains first ever Winter Olympic medalist on skis in PyeongChang 2018
